1. The Salty Roamers. I love the name. Can you introduce yourselves quickly in one or two sentences and how you came up with your name?

We, the Salty Roamers, that´s Andi and Kathi, are both Austrian but met while travelling in Nicaragua. The name is a creation of being...

We spent our last weekend in Colombia in the midst of the famous coffee corner of the country, and based ourselves in a small town called Salento. The 7-hour bus trip from Medellin was - let’s call it “adventurous” - and left us questioning whether our weekend trip awa...

travelling is exciting... but so is planning for your trip

I get excited when I plan an upcoming trip. Like a kid in a candy store. I start pulling up all kinds of maps and websites on the web and immerse myself deep into best-of, what-not-to-miss and must-see lists unt...

Sometimes a four-legged friend is missing on the road

Travelling has such a positive effect on me. Every time I’m in a new country or city, every time I have an encounter with a different language, culture or tradition my senses are heightened. I love to fully immerse m...

Time to get ready to move to our next spot again. Time for a change. Time to fish our backpacks out from under the closet, dust them off and prepare ourselves for our next journey. This time we’re planning to stay for three months in Croatia and Montenegro.

A bit over a week ago we travelled to Plitvice National Park in Croatia to see the famous lakes and gaze at the picturesque waterfalls. I knew that there would be lots of other people on the same quest who came here from all over the world to enjoy this stunning scener...

It’s been an week since we landed in my native Austria after eight exciting days in Hong Kong, a metropolis with almost seven million inhabitants that could house almost everyone in my entire home country (approx. 8.8 million Austrians). Before we landed in Hong Kong w...

USA, Spain and Japan

I just finished reading a book about the Appalachian Trail and really warmed up to the idea of getting to know a country by foot. Maybe not so much an entire country (especially if it’s as big as the States) but parts of it. The Appalachian Trail, w...

Hello there!

I'm Alex and this is my travel and lifestyle blog. I suffer from Destinesia. I also call it go-with-the-flow travelling. It's when you have a travel itinerary but then you meet someone and change your plans completely or you just love a place so much you stay much longer than expected. You just go with what feels right. This is what happened to me in Nicaragua. You can read more about it here.

I'm also a writer/copywriter/translator. Here you can find a link to my website, my online portfolio and my CV. I'm always looking for new projects and interesting collaborations. Check here for more contact details and get in touch:

Weekly travel tip

I'll post something travel-related here weekly. Watch this space!

Christmas is coming. It's approaching fast. If you're in Europe, don't miss out on visiting one of the many traditional Christmas markets and have some delicious Glühwein/Glögg. Enjoy!

Packing list

You're going on a trip but don't know what to pack? For some reason you always end up with way too much? Don't worry, this happened to me so many times.

Here some tips:

  • Travel light. Pack versatile clothes and shoes and use travel-sized cosmetics for a hassle-free trip

  • Roll your clothes and stuff your shoes with socks and stockings

  • Plastic bags double up as shoe covers and storage for dirty clothes

Check out my article about smart packing for more tips. It definitely helps to print out a packing list you can check off, so you don't forget anything important.
